Completely Free Fonts - best starting point?

Where can I find completely free fonts that have licence so one can edit and modify them?
Any tips, guys?

Many of the fonts on Dafont.com have no license information.

For free fonts that you can modify, with clear license information, I recommend Google Fonts. It is the best repository of open source fonts out there.
