Which Operating System do you make fonts in?

Discussion started on Other Topics

It is often mentioned that Graphic Designers are overwhelmingly Mac users.

Web designers are typically mention as the exception. Most web designers are windows users.

It looks to me like type designers are another exception to the rule. FontLab's development priorities would seem to indicate that's the case.

So tell us in which OS you author your fonts in.

I'm sure this is for historical reason only. Type and font tools develope in small steps.

For me, windows is the better system if it comes to type testing, since you don't have ugly mac font cashes that need a reboot every time you clean it.

I use only MacOSX.

I mostly test my fonts in InDesign and if you export your fonts right in the adobe fonts folder (/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/) they update every time you switch to InDesign. No font cashes involved.

I'm using Windows XP Pro. Working great so far.

Fontlab did an excellent job upgrading Studio 5. I used it breifly when it was 5.01 (or something like that) and 5.2 seems much easier. The user manual is way better also.
