BitFonter 3.0.1.2015b for Mac OS X available! We have just released a free update for all BitFonter 3 for Mac users!
[2015-11-05] El Capitan-compatible BitFonter 3.0.1.2015b for Mac OS X! What’s inside?BitFonter 3 for Mac OS X comes in two “flavors”:
- BitFonter for Mac OS X 10.6 and older is a native Mac PowerPC app, and requires a “BF3M” serial number
- BitFonter for Mac OS X 10.7 and newer is the Windows version specially packaged for Mac (so it runs smoothly in a near-native quality), and requires a “BF3W” serial number
Installers for both flavors are included in the package.
Installation on Mac OS X 10.7–10.11To install
BitFonter 3 for Mac OS X 10.7 and newer, open the
BitFonter3-Mac-2015.dmg, move
BitFonter 3.app to the
Applications folder, then
Ctrl+click on the app and choose
Open. If a security dialog appears, confirm it. Note: Upon the first start, the app will take some time to launch (the dock icon will disappear, then appear again). Please wait until the registration dialog appears. There, enter your name and your
BF3W serial number. Subsequently, you can start the app by just double-clicking.
IMPORTANT: After installation, please go to
Tools / Options / Outline Font Editor and enable
Export outline font into VFB file. With this option enabled, when you do
Image / Place Into Font or
File / Export / Outline Font, BitFonter will prompt you to save a VFB file, which you then can open in any compatible font editor (TypeTool 3, Fontographer 5, FontLab Studio 5, FontLab VI, RoboFont with vfb2ufo installed).
What’s new?BitFonter 3.0.1.2015b includes a new version of the app for Mac OS X 10.7 (including
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan). It uses the newest version of the “Wine” OS X/Windows compatibility layer, so it should be more stable than previous versions.
Known issuesOpening a PostScript-flavored OpenType .otf font (with a green icon) via
File / Open Installed... results in a crash of the app. Please only open TrueType-flavored OpenType .ttf fonts (with a blue icon).
Obtaining a “BF3W” serial numberIf you own a license of BitFonter for Mac but only have a “BF3M” serial number, please
contact our Sales team to obtain a free “BF3W” serial number which will work with the BitFonter 3 installer for Mac OS X 10.7 or newer.

Ps. Our TransType 4 app allows you to convert any Photofont .phf font created in BitFonter into the Apple/iOS-compatible -sbix.ttf format, and also into the Firefox-compatible -SVG.ttf format. Just open your .phf in TransType 4 and choose "OpenType TT .ttf" as the output profile. This
extensive video tutorial explains the various color OpenType formats and shows the process of creating them using BitFonter 3 and TransType 4.
