I recently saw this video, which is a fantastic tutorial for making ligatures in FontLab.  Unfortunately, I'm not rich enough to own FontLab: I have TypeTool.  The following comes directly from TypeTool's page from fontlab.com:

"Add logos, signatures, ligatures, old-style figures, fractions, currency symbols, punctuation or international characters to your fonts."

They say you're supposed to be able to add ligatures with TypeTool, but how on Earth do you do it?!  I've looked all over, and I can't find the information I need.  Is it a lie?  Can you not add ligatures with TypeTool?

Standard ligatures like 'fi', 'fl', 'oe' are supposed. These ligatures are supported at the codepage level and do not require OpenType features.
You cannot add OT 'liga' feature in TypeTool.
