Font %s.vfb already exists – or does it?

On attempting to save a font in TypeTool, I get a message telling me that the font "%s.vfb" already exists, and do I wish to replace it?
Puzzled by this, I ran a search my mac, but I can find no files named "%s.vfb".
What gives?
