I want to add some glyphs to an existing font (Māori macrons). OK, so I open the installed font and created the new glyphs. No worries so far. When I hit SAVE I note that the font is saved with a .vfb extension. Does this mean that I can't actually edit the original, installed font directly, and that a new font (containing my additional glyphs) must be created/= (generated) and then activated in Fusion2?

In other words, am I correct in thinking that the installed font itself cannot actually be edited directly? Maybe that's a good thing – a sort of safeguard if you like, but I just wonder if I'm going about things the right way.
