Hi
I want to open an .otf font and convert it to Mac Type 1 for editing in Fontographer. I will only be working with the 10 dieresis characters in Fontographer. Do I NEED TransType for this or can I use TypeTool?

If I want to convert the Type 1 font back to an .otf font, can I use TypeTool or do I NEED TransType?

I want the most economical solution and I am having difficulty getting my head around the fact that the type editor TypeTool costs less than the font converter TransType!

Roger,

Yes you can import the font to TypeTool and export it as a Type 1 font. But you will loose all OpenType-specific info like OT features in this case. The same with TransType. TypeTool is not suitable for producing full-featured OT fonts. We are working on the 5th version of Fontographer that will be able to open and save OTF.

Thank you, Alex, for your reply.

Very good news about Fontographer 5. Do you have an estimated availability date?
