Append glyphs is constantly greyed out

Hi, in TT3, I'm trying to combine 2 Asian unicode ttf fonts. I copy glyphs from the Japanese font and when I right-click in the font window of the Chinese font, I don't get the option for Append Glyphs. It remains greyed out.

I'm following the steps in page 118 of the manual, but this process doesn't work for me.

Would appreciate any help.
