Hey everyone, I'm looking for a way to create all capital fonts. Right now I'm creating the uppercase version of each glyph, kerning all the glyphs, copying the uppercase versions into the lowercase glyphs, kern the lowercase glyphs, then kern the uppercase and lowercase glyphs together. Is there a better way to do this? It seems that there should be a setting to use the same glyphs, kerning, metrics for both uppercase and lowercase letters. Anyone have any ideas?

To duplicate the caps to lowercase use copy and paste special: glyph as component and sidebearings. If you change the spacing of the caps, you'll have to copy and paste special sidebearings each time. For kerning, class based is the way to go. That way you can class the caps with the lowercase and you only have to kern the caps. Hunt down a tutorial for setting up kern classes or check out the book Learn FontLab Fast.

Another trick for generating the duplciate lowercase set is to generate them. Make a text file like this:

A=a B=c C=c etc.
Hit ctrl G and paste the text into the dialog box. Check the appropriate checks and generate. That won't copy the kerning but it'll copy the glyphs. That's how I do it. I leave the lowercase blank until the last minute then autogenerate the rest.
