I've got a ton (as in thousands) of fonts that I need to sort through and organize. A lot of them have "bad" names; incorrect capitalization, abbreviated name, punctuation or other symbols prefixing the name. Some, though they're from the same family, do not reflect this in the family name. You'll have XYZ, XYZ Condensed, XYZ Extended, and so on, and in each there will be regular, bold and italic versions.
But no problem, right? Just pop a font in TransType, spend a few seconds setting the names, and export. Lather, rinse, repeat, and after a few day's hard work, it should be all over with.
Except for the part where TransType appears to be completely ignoring me in some cases. I'll enter in new values, but the exported font, no matter what format it's in, doesn't reflect those changes. When I open it up in my font manager, it uses the old values.
As an example, I have Crass Roots in Windows TrueType format. It calls itself "!CRASS ROOTS OFL", with a style called "REG". This is very annoying, but TransType appears unwilling or unable to do anything about it. I'll change the names, but no matter what format I output to, it doesn't make a difference.
Crass Roots was released by Exclamachine (hence the exclamation in the name) under the Open Font License (hence the OFL in the name); you can get it just by googling for it. For the exact same file I have,
get it from the Open Font Library.
I'm using TransType Pro 3.02 in OS X Leopard.
Can anyone offer advice on what might be going on? I've been working on this problem for hours now, and it's pretty infuriating.
P.S., FontLab Studio isn't having any better luck.
