Author Topic: Why only 512 Glyph Positions? What about the other 65,025 Unicode points?  (Read 1543 times)

I need to replace some characters that are "way up there" in Unicode.  Is that possible?  When I type a hex value such as '21b5' into the "Go to Unicode" box in the "Select Glyph Position" step, my input is ignored, and the selected character in the table gets replaced instead.

But the table in "Select Glyph Position" only goes up to 0x1ff.  Why is that?  What about the other 65,025 Unicode points?

If this is a limitation of SigMaker 3, I suppose I could change the glyph position in the .ttf output file using a hex editor or one of the tools in Apple's Font Suite.  Any chance someone could tell me how to do that -- looks like it would save me a day or so of sifting through documentation or reverse-engineering!

Thanks,

When you type a hex value like '21b5' into the Go to Unicode field the table must scroll to this glyph and the corresponding cell must be selected. Can you scroll to the glyph with the scroll bar at the right?

No, I cannot.  Scrolling to the bottom, it ends at 0x1ff.

I had selected Lucide Grande.  So I went back and selected Arial.  Same problem: limited to 0x1ff.  Then I selected the Symbol font, and now I am able to select many more Unicode points, 21b5 in particular.

So, although I suggest that FontLab log a bug to explain this font/glyph-position restriction in a future version, I am able to move on now.

Thank you, Alex.
