When I try to type a segol in a footnote, it appears as a tsere.  Even when I copy and paste a word with segols into the footnotes, tseres appear instead.  (I'm working in Word, Windows XP).  It seems like it's cutting off the bottom dot for some reason.  It also happens when words are nested in a table.  In this case, the shewas become hiriqs...you get the idea.

Has anyone else had this problem?  It's frustrating because my professors think I'm spelling the words incorrectly.  Thanks!

That sounds like a line spacing issue.  Try changing the line spacing in the footnotes (and possibly to rest of the document as well) from a relative spacing (single, double, etc.) to an exact line spacing.  Just try a few numbers to find one that works for you.

Thank you Chris!  That takes care of the problem.  Now my line spacing looks somewhat inconsistent, but at least the words are spelled correctly.  Smiley

With a little trial and error, you can figure out the exact linespacing value that corresponds to the relative spacing, to achieve consistent spacing. Alternatively, you can apply the exact linespacing globally.
