Hi all,

I've recently compared different Hebrew fonts in Safari on Mac OS X (see: http://beresheit.blogspot.com/2009/04/fonts-for-hebrew-bible-with.html). Unfortunately, I found that IE on a Windows PC was displaying the Hebrew (using the Ezra SIL font) better than any of the fonts I tried on Mac OS X. With SBL, although the cantillation signs were displayed more correctly than with some of the other fonts I tried, the d'geshim were not always displayed correctly. For example (see here: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jT28CFVS2Ao/SfinqfSuonI/AAAAAAAAABw/7CVP5mzUdQs/sbl.jpg?imgmax=800), the d'gesh that is supposed to be displayed in the first Qof is instead displayed after it. Is there any known way to improve the display of the SBL font under Mac OS X?

Thanks,
Ze'ev

None of the marks in your screenshot image are correctly positioned. The problem here is lack of support for OpenType Layout for Hebrew on the Mac OS. I do know that Apple are working on this, but I don't know when we can expect an improvement.

Yes, I know. It's too bad that IE displays the content so much better.

I've submitted a bug report to Apple on this (hopefully, the more bug reports, the more likely it will be fixed). The Apple bug# is 6755867.
