Hello,

this is my first post here. I am using the SBL Hebrew font (1.52 Build 011) under Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2 with Word 2007. The Uniscribe versions on my system are USP 10 1.626.6002.18005 in the Windows System directory and 1.626.5756.0 in the MS Office directory.

Unvocalized text doesn't pose any problems, and on the screen, text with vowels and diacritics comes out fine as well. However, when printed out, the vowels and diacritics don't appear under/over the letters but rather slightly to the right of the letters under dotted circles (the letters are spaced normally, the dotted circles partly cover them). When I export the document to Acrobat, the problem dissappears (but other problems related to diacritics occur). When I change the font within Word, e.g. to SIL Ezra, the problem also dissappears, but I would prefer to use the SBL Hebrew font.

Do you have an idea how I could solve this problem? Thank you in advance for your help!

What kind of printer are you using?

A possible workaround would be to export to PDF from Word, and then print the PDF from Acrobat.

This is the second recent problem we've had reported in which things look fine on screen but don't print properly. It is very strange to me, because I'm used to printers simply reproducing what you see on screen.

As discussed in this thread

SIL Ezra uses a hack to suppress all instances of the dotted circle, which explains why this font might not exhibit the problem. Have you tried any other Hebrew fonts?

Hello,

thank you for your input.

I am using an HP Officejet 6500. The problem also occurs with an HP PSC 1610.

I have tried the Acrobat workaround, but while it solves the specific problem with the dotted circles, unluckily it creates new problems related to letter spacing and positioning of diacritics...

I have now tried other Hebrew fonts, and you are right: they also produce dotted circles in the printed version. SIL Ezra is the only font I tried that doesn't exhibit the problem.

Just curious, Marc - where is your Hebrew text coming from? Do you key it in/type it yourself? or is copy/pasted from some other source?

I have exactly the same error.
I use a text pasted from WTT Bible Works 2009. I use the Hebrew text in word 2007 and everything is correct at the screen.

But when I try to print or to save it in PDF or XPS word shutdown with a sever error.

I have tried on a other computer with Adobe PDF creator professional, and the PDF was made without error.

So it seems that Microsoft Word 2007 with this font. I tried too with WordPad and it’s not working too.

I am having this same problem using Word 2010. The Hebrew looks fine on screen. But when I print Hebrew on the Canon iR C3200 printer that we have at our seminary, the dotted circles appear above every vowel point, which are therefore shifted out of place. This happens with SBL Hebrew, as well as Cardo and other fonts that use the dotted circle when a vowel point appears on its own. The problem does not occur with Linux Libertine, which does not show the dotted circle with lone vowels.

Interestingly, when I took my laptop home and printed the very same file on my Brother laser printer, the problem did not occur. Nor does the problem occur when I print to the PDFCreator. This leads me to believe that it's an issue with the print driver. I have the Canon set up as PCL5 (rather than PostScript).

BTW, it has nothing to do with pasting the text from BibleWorks, as it happens even when I type Hebrew myself.

Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this?
