Hello:

I'm new to designing fonts, so I want to start with a really basic question: What is an effective workflow for designing a high-quality, precision font from scratch?

For example, do people start with a sketch on [graph] paper, scan it, and continue from there? Do people just compose original fonts in the glyph window of fontlab? Do people compose in Adobe Illustrator and transfer the curves?

I checked out tutorials on the web, but they all seem to be of the create-a-font-in-5-minutes. But if I want to create precision, high-quality fonts, what tools do I have, and what practices can I use, to make sure that the glyphs are consistent?

Thanks!

Mayer

Design a couple of bad fonts. Then you'll be able to figure out what a good work flow is for you.
