How can I get my OpenType TTF font to display the O icon (capital O for OpenType)? Even after processing through VOLT, it still shows the TT icon (for TrueType) for the font file. I've also noticed some newer Microsoft TTF fonts show the O icon, but have no OpenType properties in the font.

Thanks!

The icon (on Windows) for TTF fonts depends on the presents or absents of a digital signature.

Is the digital signature something I can add through VOLT, or do I have to have a certificate from Verisign or another such vendor?

(FYI -- it's "presence" and "absence")  ;-)

Yes you need a certificate. An other option is to add an empty DSIG table, but this will raise errors in MS-FontValidator.

Germans - they will never learn it

TrueType technology actually involves two parts:

    * The TrueType Rasterizer
    * TrueType fonts

The Rasterizer is a piece of software that is embedded in both Windows and Mac operating systems. It gathers information on the size, color, orientation and location of all the TrueType fonts displayed

You can use FontForge (it's free) to add the DSIG table
