I have a problem with the VOLT Glyph Editor, specifically getting VOLT to recognize new glyph mappings.

Background: I am working on a Unicode script proposal, and the roadmap allocation for my script changed at the last UTC meeting. As a result, I updated my glyph mappings in my font editor (FontCreator v. 5.0).

Problem: When I open the font in VOLT, the outdated mappings appear in the Glyph Editor. What's worse is that if I don't select tools:options:do not overwrite cmap table, it will completely obliterate the correct mappings.

Question: how do I get VOLT to play nice and recognize the new mappings? I will be very disappointed if VOLT requires me to manually remap several hundred glyphs, just because it can't update itself to reality.

1. Open your newly generated font in VOLT.

2. Import your VOLT project file with the old Unicode mappings.

3. IMPORTANT: do NOT press the Compile button.

4. In the Import menu, select Import Glyph Data / Import cmap table ; this will replace the Unicode values in the VOLT glyph editor. Note that if you have conflicting Unicode values in the new cmap, i.e. if the new encoding assigns existing character codes in the VOLT data to new glyphs, you should get dialogue messages asking you to confirm changes.

5. Check results carefully.

I obviously did not look carefully enough before, because that was a very logical, simple operation. I guess this is here as a help for others.

Thanks, Tiro.

Sorry,
Van
