Change font initial line spacing?

Discussion started on TypeTool

I'm wondering, for a given font which I have the .otf file for, is it possible to adjust the fonts initial line spacing? For instance, I'm an iOS developer, and I noticed when you set a fonts line spacing to 0 within the program, it may differ from another fonts line spacing which is also set to 0. This leads me to believe that differing fonts have differing line spacing when at 0? Is it possible to do this using TypeTool?

Thanks.

This is partly an app-specific behavior.

Many "pro" graphics apps simply set the default line spacing to 120% of the point size. Nothing else you do in the font, other than the size of glyphs relative to the em square, will matter.

More "everyday" apps such as Microsoft Office default to the line spacing built into the font.

For extra confusion, there are three different sets of vertical metrics in a font, that should be coordinated. TypeTool lets you set them all. Go to Font Info > Metrics & Dimensions > TrueType specific metrics. (This also affects OpenType .otf)
