Smartfone fonts

Do smartfones have the ability to use standard font formats?

There are Windows, Android and Apple OS fones and tablets, but alot of what I see looks like they have very basic text abilities.

I plugged my regular cell fone into the computer hoping there was some way to install my own font, but no.
