Want to create an Unicode Chakma Font by Type Tool 3.0 ver.

Discussion started on TypeTool

Hello,
Our Chakma Language (Script) UNICODE range is 11100-1114F. It is newly-defined blocks in version 6.1 are available (see http://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode6.1.0/). Here is pdf version ( see http://unicode.org/charts/PDF/U11100.pdf). Here is include with names list (See http://www.unicode.org/charts/nameslist/c_11100.html). Here is names list with details description (see http://www.unicode.org/charts/nameslist/n_11100.html#11109).
But, many of the UNICODE language (Script) such as: Bengali (see http://www.unicode.org/charts/nameslist/c_0980.html), Mayanmar (see http://www.unicode.org/charts/nameslist/c_1000.html), Tamil (see http://www.unicode.org/charts/nameslist/c_0B80.html) etc are showing correctly on Windows XP, Vista & 7. On the other hand, our language (Script) is not showing correctly. What is the proper reason? How can it is showing on any Operating System (like : Windowns, Mac, Apple etc)? Please some suggest me.

Anyway, I'm creating  ANSI Chakma font like "Alaam", Bargee etc (see http://hilledu.com/download-fonts/). But, how can I create a UNICODE Chakma font? How can I see it on any OS? I look forward your best suggestion.

Which is the best software to create a UNICODE Font?

"Which is the best software to create a UNICODE Font?"
TypeTool and FontLab Studio support Unicode 5.0 (FontLab 5.1 Mac could be different). One app supporting Unicode I know is FontForge. The limit is 1,114,111 glyphs.
I made quick and dirty attempt and:
- your font (Alaami.ttf) has much more glyphs than Unicode chart
- there are glyphs missing
- generated .otf font works in FireFox 14, winXP although doesn't work in NotePad (but it is quite old).

FontForge? Where I get it from? Please provide more info about FontForge Software. How can I buy it?

Here I post that, Mr. Adam Twardoch (FontLab)" <adam@fontlab.com> info me as under:
You need FontLab's TypeTool or FontLab Studio to design the glyphs and
assign the Unicode codepoints to them. Then you need to generate a TTF
font from the application, and you need Microsoft VOLT to add the
OpenType Layout features to that TTF font.

Microsoft VOLT is a free Microsoft Windows application that is necessary
to add Indic OpenType Layout features.

There is a VOLT Training video available on:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/links/news.aspx?NID=1500

A VOLT Tutorial is here:
http://scripts.sil.org/VOLT_Tutorial

You can download Microsoft VOLT for free from:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/volt.mspx

and the VOLT forum is available on:
http://forum.fontlab.com/microsoft-visual-opentype-layout-tool-(volt)/

I look forward a best suggest from you.

Since Chakma is an Indic script and because it is newly defined in Unicode you are likely to have problems with an OpenType implementation in almost any software. Chakma support isn't listed as being supported in Windows 8 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb688099.aspx#W8). I don't know if InDesign supports it. It's possible that Mozilla has added support for Chakma since they seem to have already implemented support for Unicode 6.1.

At least until software starts supporting Chakma you might consider using Graphite smarts in your font (http://graphite.sil.org/).

If you are able to type Unicodes you get proper glyphs in InDesign and FireFox (these two I checked just now).
Back to the font:
In FontLab Studio:
edit file c:\Program Files\Common Files\Data\uranges.dat :

0x10A00,0x10A5F,10A00 Kharoshthi # after this line
0x11100,0x1114F,11100 Chakma  # add a line with desired Unicode range
0x12000,0x123FF,12000 Cuneiform # the rest of the file

Open FLS, choose "Chakma" Unicode range and add glyphs into their proper slots.
In TypeTool (probably) you need to open the font which contains Chakma range and add glyphs into their proper slots.
You can download installable FontForge for windows from: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fontforge/ .
FontForge is free (BSD licence), info http://fontforge.org/. Is a bit challenging and not rock steady.

PS feel free PM me if you need more info.

1. download Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=22339 (or other keyb layout app) and assign Unicodes to proper keys (and shift/keys). Format: U+1113A
2. when done go to "project -> build DLL and setup package"
3. install your new keyboard
4. setup new language in Control Panel -> International settings
5. you can write in your language (checked in WordPad, winXP)

In your font - Ribeng.ttf - Chakma glyphs do not have Unicode values, so there is not any way to access them.
No spaces in glyph names!
Attached new file with Unicode values - please check your keyboard.

Are you talking about letter+virama+(na, ya, ra, la, wa) ?
You may want them as ligatures (when more complicated or intersecting each other) or simple pair of glyphs, where the second is zero-width.
"How can I set conjunct glyph in our Keyboard layout? "
In keyboard layout there are only Unicoded glyphs; composed letters are set automatically by substitution (or ligation where needed).
BTW where is virama (u+11133) in your font? Are you using this key when typing?
