[build 4345] TypeTool 3.1 pre-release build 4345 for Mac OS X (Lion-compatible)

Discussion started on TypeTool

Fontlab Ltd. announces the availability of the first pre-release ("beta") build 4345 of TypeTool 3.1 for Mac OS X. TypeTool 3.1 for Mac OS X is a 32-bit Intel application and runs on Mac OS X 10.5, 10.6 and on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. On an Intel Mac computer, it runs approximately 2.5 faster than TypeTool 3.0.

This build is available free of charge for all existing TypeTool 3.0 users. You need a valid "TT3M" (TypeTool 3 for Mac) serial number. Also, once the final build is released, TypeTool 3.1 will be a free update for all TypeTool 3 for Mac users.

Build 4345 of TypeTool 3.1 is "beta quality". Some functionalities do not yet work entirely correctly. However, most of the functionality works well.

*** DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL TYPETOOL 3.1 PRE-RELEASE BUILD 4345 FOR MAC ***

1. If you'd like to keep the TypeTool 3.0 release version, go to the /Applications/TypeTool 3 folder and rename "TypeTool.app" to "TypeTool 3.0.app".

2. Download TypeTool 3.1 pre-release build 4345 for Mac OS X:
http://www.fontlab.com/downloads/beta/TT31MacBeta4345.dmg

3. Install the new build. It will install into /Applications/TypeTool 3/TypeTool.app, so if you already have an application with that name, it will be overwritten.

4. Launch TypeTool. Upon the first launch, you will need to personalize your application, enter your serial number (which is the same serial number that you used to install TypeTool 3.0 for Mac) and activate the product. Note: you will need to be connected to the Internet when you activate the product.

*** KNOWN ISSUES ***

If you open an .otf or .ttf file that has OpenType Layout tables with TypeTool 3.0 or with FontLab Studio 5.0.x, save the file as .vfb, and then open the .vfb file in TypeTool 3.1 build 4345, the name tags of the stored binary OpenType Layout tables will be reversed. If you then go ahead generate an .otf or .ttf file, the OpenType Layout tables will become unusable.

Note: this only happens if you open a .vfb file in TypeTool 3.1 build 4345 that was previously saved in TypeTool 3.0 or FontLab Studio 5.0, and only when originally, that .vfb file came from opening an existing .otf or .ttf font file. This problem does not occur if you open the .otf or .ttf font file in TypeTool 3.1 directly, or if your .vfb was started from scratch. And the problem only affects stored OpenType Layout tables.

This problem will be addressed in one of the next builds.

Please verify whether the problems you've previously reported still occur, and report any problems (especially crashes!) on this board.
