Export Outline Pixelfont

Discussion started on BitFonter

Hi everybody
I am working on a project about type in very small sizes.
At the moment I am creating a pixelfont with Bitfonter 3.0.0. The problem is, that I am not able to export my font.
I tried every step as explained in the bitfonter manual. Everything works well, but if the exported font
opens in FontLabStudio, all glyphs are empty. In the Bitfonter 'Export as scalable Pixelfont' Window the preview on the
left is also empty. (I tried the same thing with a demo version from the fontlab homepage, there i CAN export the font, but it's sort of 'destroyed' in fontlab afterwards.)
I don't know what the problem is or what i should change that it will finally work, can anybody help me?
thank you!!

Do you perform Tools > Outline > Trace Bitmap command before exporting?

no...
i tried it now but that's not what i wanted.. i need the pixels and not a different shape. but i think the solution is trace pixels instead of trace bitmap.
phuu i think i got i now!
thanks so much!!

glyph is now visible in the glyph window of fontlab. on the glyph table the glyph is not visible, just white space.
when i try to generate the font from font lab now, theres a warning:

<test> The feature file OS/2 overrides TypoAscender and TypoDescender do not sum to the font bbox size!

i can not understand this warning because the glyph isn't exceeding 1000 mark...

does anybody know what that means exactly or what i need to change to make it work?
thx

Yes, Trace Pixels is the right command.

The message you get in FLS is just a warning described here: http://forum.fontlab.com/archive-old-fontlab-forum/what-does-this-error-message-mean-t2875.0.html
You may ignore it.

The pixeloutline i exported from bitfonter is now in fontlab, but only visible in the glyph window (i can see the outline, but by pressing < key it's all white). In the glyphtable it looks like imported backgrounds (grey colour). In the preview window i can't see anything and when i ignore the warning with the font bbox size the generated font is not visible in any program.   :(

It looks like outlines were not exported into FL. Can you send me your bfb file with several characters to look at.

I have the same problem... backgrounds imported but not the outlines. is there a fix?

It seems to be a compatibility issue. Michael, are you on Mac OS 10.6.7?

Yes, I am. I managed to get it to work, by creating the pixel layer (Tools > Outline > Trace Pixels), then exporting (File > Export > Outline Font > Export existing outlines only).

Note that File > Export > Outiline Pixelfont failed.
