Hi there
um a new member in ur group
I started recently usin' the SBL fonts
I need it for my Bible researches in my colleage but i have the problem with the direction
as u know the right to left thing
the only way i can use the fonts is writing with Latin keyboard system wich writes from left to right wich makes it impossible to me to write any long Hebrew or Aramic scripts
i Followed the steps in the SBL reed me files many times over and over again and yet i wasnt able to use those fonts in the Hebrew right to left order (i spent 14 hours sitting on my computer workin' on it till i was a sleep dead but i failed imagine how many times i cursed those fonts makers after that) so i need any kind of help specially that i need to use the Qumran font now adays
Isnt there any font editor software to re-edit those font to be NORMAL as any other hebrew fonts on earth and works on the normal Israeli Keyboard Layout right to left???

The SBL Hebrew font is a standard, Unicode encoded font. It uses the character encodings in the Unicode Hebrew block for all appropriate Hebrew letters and marks. It works in any Unicode compliant application that implements support for right-to-left text layout and OpenType Layout. Such applications include any text processor on Windows using the Uniscribe layout engine (including MS Office apps, Notepad, UltraEdit, etc. and also web browsers), the cross-platform open source OpenOffice suite, Mellel on the Mac, the XeTeX publishing program, and the Middle East versions of Adobe design applications.

You mention 'SBL fonts' (plural). Are you perhaps trying to use the older Legacy SP Fonts, which are also available from the SBL website? e.g. SPDamascus or SPEzra? These are not Unicode encoded, and as the website indicates these are 'legacy' fonts. They are made available for backwards compatibility with existing documents that may employ them. The SBL Hebrew font is the only one that is designed to work with current text processing and layout technologies and standard Unicode text encoding.

How frustrating for you!  It's very difficult to help, though, if we don't
know more specifically what the problem is.  Perhaps you can tell us what it
was that you did in your 14 hours of not being able to get it to work.  Did
you try to install the Hebrew keyboard (ie the software that maps your
keyboard differently - you don't buy a different piece of hardware)?  Are
you having difficulty switching between Latin and Hebrew keyboards?  What
operating system are you using (ie do you have a Mac and a PC and are you
using eg OSX or Windows XP)?

Regards

Judy

PS I send this in Hebrew in the font that HOTMAIL assigns to it.  I don't
know how to encode the message in SBL-Hebrew, that -so John claims - is
usable with the browser.
