I have generated many Windows fonts but have run into a problem.  I tried to convert Zapf Dingbats to a Type 1 PC font and when I install it in XP, with the PFM and PFB files being in the correct folders it doesn't work.  The font displays in a font list such as Word without a name, i.e, the name is blank.  When I go to Control Panel > Fonts and click on Zapf there is no font preview, only font sizes such as 12, 14, 18, etc., running down the left side.  I also tried this in TrueType and only get boxes or rectangles instead of the actual font in the preview.  I did notice that all of the characters are in Character slots containing 2 asterisks (**).  Could this be the problem?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Dingbats is a custom encoded font. Do not try to regenerate it. It uses no known encoding. If you want the characters you can paste them into a new font (with copyright permission).

Thanks for your reply.  I ended up doing what you mentioned, creating a new font by cutting and pasting the characters into the correct keyboard slot.  Worked great.  Thanks again.  Case solved.
