TypeTool to Adobe Illustrator Problems

I'm a design major at Saginw Valley State University in Saginaw, MI. One of our courses was based solely around creating our own fonts and clipart. Our prof showed us all he knew about creating fonts (using ScanFont and TypeTool)- yet everyone in the class, including the professor had one common problem. Whenever you go to create font outlines in Adobe Illustrator, a capital letter will show up out of nowhere. For instance, if you typed
612 N Main St.
And did a hard return, it would show up as
612 Main St.B
I did some trouble shooting- I uploaded Arial, made one slight alteration, exported it, loaded it up, and went through all the same motions, only this time- no capital letter. Is there a glyph we're forgetting? What's the deal?
