Well, not sure if this is all new to you but you could practice by taking a font like Arial and cutting up the stems into equally-sized pieces.

You would want to maintain the same look throughout the font. You can make that happen by placing some guides such that the dots appear at the same place in the stems of the characters.

Of course you can use some letters to make others with like b, d, p, q, etc.

It's not that hard to do but the ticklish part will be making all the characterrs have the same look and feel.
