Create a color font

Can anyone answer this question.
Is it possible to create a font were each letter is a different colour actually in the font set so if i type a name in photoshop each caricature comes in as a different colour, i need this ability as i am using a product call XMpie that is able to create variable text in a photoshop file automatically using data files and a recorder action. But as each name comes in it picks up the colour from the first caricature so if i had the ability to colour each letter in the font set my problem would be solved.

No, you cannot add color to characters of normal outline (OpenType and TrueType) fonts.
But you can create BITMAP color fonts:

As I recall, most anything is possible in a type 3 font. But, type 3 fonts have issues in themselves. You could be making issues for some users. Its rare, but when video memory is not huge, large monitors sometimes have very limited color pallettes, often just grey-scale, so please be sure to test your font under those conditions to make sure that things can be distinguished by just grey-scale equivalent on your color pallete.
The human eye has difficulty distinguishing by color alone when objects are small. Far better to place a white or black glyph against a color-filled bounding box.
