Hi

i can't fugure out how to change the leading on a font? can someone point me in the right direction?

No...I think friendlygirafe is referring to leading (line gap), not tracking or kerning. You can adjust it in the truetype specific metrics window...I'm not sure though if that setting affects postscript or otf fonts though.

It's true that the term originated in the days of hot metal, but your other statements are incorrect.

1. The term is still very much in use -- except by people new to the game, and
2. The term "leading" has never, ever, referred to horizontal spacing or kerning. The term "leading" is applied only to vertical spacing.

When talking about kerning, there are two types: individual character kerning, and word/line/paragraph kerning. When using the term to refer to the latter type, the term "tracking" is more commonly used to avoid confusion with individual character kerning.
