David Lemon wrote a document about hinting titled "Hinting Type 1 Fonts" that was hosted at Pyrus.com and is linked to at:http://www.fontlab.com/contact-and-support/product-faqs/faq-fontlab-typetool-mdash-hinting.html

The link is broken, it points to:

but just loops around to:

I searched for "hinting.pdf" and found it on Typophile. Someone must have posted it in a discussion or something.
