I have recently upgraded to Fontographer 5 after using the older Fontographer 3.5.2 on and off over the years.
I have two issues that concern me for Windows. The first is that when you use File > Generate font files > Generate, the actual filename produced is the one from Element > Font info > Names tab > PostScript font name. I had thought that the resulting *.ttf filename would be the same as the *.fog filename, as it was in FOGv3.5.2. Further, the filenames I use have a number in them (a version number, examply MyFont3.ttf) but the "PostScript font name" entry does not seem to allow for any numbers, only letters. Why is this?
The second issue is more important. Glyphs that I created in FOGv3.5.2, can be seen from the *.ttf file in Word by using the ALT+0xxx (decimal number). When I opened that old *.ttf file with FOGv5 (and saved it as a *.fog file), I then added a new glyph at decimal 245, then generated the font file (Platform=Windows, Font Format=Open Type TT/Windows True Type (.ttf), Format Options=Use Windows Symbol Encoding NOT checked), I found that none of my glyphs can be accessd in Word by using ALT+0xxx key combinations, whereas the older file is OK. Actually, when I highlight a letter in Word, hold down the ALT key then type in 0245 or 0246, Word automatically reverts to Times New Roman and displays the relevant character for that font. Does anyone know why this is occurring? I am getting a sense that the resulting *.ttf file from FOGv5 is not in the same format as the *.ttf file from my older FOGv3.5.2.
