On June 17, 2010, Fontlab Ltd. released Fontographer 5 for Mac and Windows.

Some selected highlights of the upcoming Fontographer 5 version include:
— glyph antialiasing (smoothing) in all application windows and glyph window zoom level up to 1600%;
— radically redesigned and updated, easy-to-use Font Info dialog for editing the relevant technical parameters, with updated, intelligent automatic generation of OpenType-compatible font family naming and of cross-plattform linespacing values;
— reading and generating OpenType fonts (both PS/.otf and TT/.ttf flavor) with 20,000+ glyphs, with the ability to define the features using the most recent Adobe FDK for OpenType (AFDKO) version 2.5 syntax;
— reading and generating the FontLab VFB format for easy integration into a FontLab-based workflow;
— the Adobe PostScript autohinter and the excellent FontLab TrueType autohinter, integrated Adobe and Microsoft rasterizers for high-quality bitmap generation from the hinted outlines, and the ability to export the bitmaps into the BDF format.

For more information, please consult the Fontographer 5 press release.

Best,
Adam

Congratulations to the Fontlab team for all their hard work on this excellent application. And thanks for putting up with all the disgruntled beta-testers. Or at least putting up with me. :-)

Seriously, though thanks to FontLab for supporting Fog. I use Fog regularly for most of my basic drawing, and rely on using both it and FontLab Studio for my work.

It is fantastic that Fog can now access 20,000+ glyphs (actually I think the limit is 32,000)—now all we need is for FontLab to be able to do the same!

Please clarify the current price for Fontographer 5 for Fontlab 4.6 users and Fontlab 5 users. There was a special $99 add-on for FL5 - is that over with and if so will it ever be a special price again?

thanks!

The promo officially ended 31 July and was removed from the website. That price will not ever be offered again. However, since some people missed the offer because of vacation, procrastination, spam filters or other excuses  Wink we're keeping it open unofficially for a little while longer. Certainly no longer than the end of this month.
If you want to take advantage of the offer now you will need to contact Lisa directly at orders@fontlab.com.

Hi, I'm sure I'm not alone with this complaint - forget Fontographer and make Fontlab 6! The current version has dozens of bugs for already five (or more) years, you know it, you're collecting feedbacks and what you did instead? Fontographer for children...

Franta,

we are working on FontLab Studio 6, of course. But we've also heard from many users that FontLab Studio is just very complex and extensive — Fontographer 5 is much simpler. There are quite a few users who wanted a simpler tool (but not as simple as TypeTool).

Best,
Adam
