Hi all,
One of the problems I am having with FOG v5 is that I cannot seem to generate a *.ttf file for Windows where the character set = 2.
To prove it, using FOG v5, I opened the wingding.ttf file (copied from C:\Windows\Fonts to a new folder) then clicked on Element > Font Info... and on the Names tab, checked the "Build other names automatically" then changed the Typographic family name from "Wingdings" to "Test Wingdings". I then clkicked on the Encoding tab and changed the "Encoding" from "Original" to "MS Windows Wingdings font" (though in another test, I left it at "Original" and received the same result), changed the Glyph repertoire from 259 to 256 (I do not know why an extra 3 slots were aded), and clicked on the "OK" button.
As is usual, before generating the font file, I clicked on File > Save As and simply used the default name "TestWingdings-Regular.fog" then clicked on the "Save" button. I then clicked on File > Generate font files... and ensured that the following were selected: Platform: Windows Font format: = Open Type TT / Windows True Type (.ttf) Format Options button "Do not generate OpenType Layout code" (default) "Compress..." was left unchecked (default) "Use Windows Symbol encoding" was checked Save to: (entered my folder name) "Overwrite existing files" was checked
Finally, I clicked on the "Generate" button, and the .ttf font file was created. I then copied this file into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.
Next, I used a software tool called PickFont.exe (from Charles Petzold's book "Programming Windows 5th Edition). In that program, I typed "TestWingdings Regular" into the Face Name textbox then clicked on the OK button. The resulting "Text Metrics" returned a Character Set of 0 (zero) and not 2, the one I expected.
I tried other settings in FOG v5 but none of them seem to allow me to generate a font file using Character Set = 2.
Can anybody tell me how to generate a Character Set 2 font file?
I have also tried to create a user-defined encoding file, mentioned in the manual, that sets the character set to 2, but when a I copy in the glyphs from another symbol file then generate a new font file using the same settings above, FOG v5 continues to generate a Character Set 0 font file. Could this be a bug in FOG v5 or is there something I am not doing correctly?
Regards, Neville Lang
