When I have two identical curves on top of one other, Removing Overlap creates a curve with hundreds of little segments. Is there a workaround or setting?

Trick 1: Scale up (for example 5 times normal size), remove overlap, then scale down.

That rarely works but in certain circumstances it does the trick. If not . . .

Trick 2: Scale up, scale the piece to be overlapped by a factor of 99.99% (or something similar), remove overlap, then scale down.
