When I'm working on glyphs I can press a key to see a filled preview with no guidelines or points. That's really handy, I use it often. When I'm in sketch mode, that key shows me a preview of the outline. When I'm in sketch mode I want to see a preview of the sketch I'm working on, not the outline.

I guess that the preview shall organize your skill in sketch because you sought the good or not qualified for that mode..

I've been using sketch mode in FontLab for almost a decade: I'm qualified to use it. Try fine tuning an ultralight italic S in sketch mode and then tell me a preview wouldn't be handy. Trying to see subtle variations in line weight is very difficult with a low contrast image and interference from the outline layer, guidelines etc.
