OpenType preview crossed with Kerning/Metrics window

Would be very useful if you could edit kerning in the OpenType preview window, or if the Kerning/Metrics window could be set to change glyphs as the opentype coding dictates.  Here's what I mean...

Say I have a font that has a lot of alternates, ligatures, etc.  It would be good if I could just drag glyphs in the OpenType preview panel (result part of screen) closer together or further apart.  Or...  the metrics window could look at the opentype code and change the glyphs accordingly.
