This is more complicated than most of my requests, but it’s also more interesting. It occurred to me that the ability of the “Preview” section of the preview window to display text as configured in preview.txt could be integrated into the preview mode of the glyph window. For example, the tilde key could toggle the black and white preview as it is now, but shift-tilde could display the appropriate string from preview.txt. This would be useful when doing complex tasks, such as editing multiple glyphs or fonts simultaneously that make toggling then entire preview window problematic. Combined with the ability to edit within a string of characters this would make it very easy for designers to preview a letter in many contexts without worry about screen real estate.

Maybe it isn't quite what you mean, but you can get something like that with the Neighbors layer active. You can right-click either of the "neighbors" to show a different glyph, or you can edit the text file where the default set of "neighbors" are stored.

I already five different neighbors files I alternate through depending on the task. But some of my preview strings are five lines long Smiley
