I would like Fontlab to have some sort of palette or special kind of glyph where I can dump stuff that I do not want to lose, but do not want going into my fonts. This would be great for storing variations on letters and shapes without creating alternate versions or having to worry about a defective part keeping a test font from working.

I would second this request. Perhaps a check box on the glyph window that when checked would not output the glyph during 'Generate Fonts'
