The lost t

In the latest FontLab Studio for Windows: I set the keyboard shortcut for "t" to "free transform". Handy. However, in the metric windows, I can no longer type the letter t. I can type it in the text box but I can't type in the metric window itself. All other letters and numerals work fine. Do I have to give up on assigning a shortcut to "t"?
