In FontLab studio, sometimes I like to work on two different elements of a glyph by separating overlapping parts on the mask layer. For example, if I'm working on an ampersand, I separate it into two separate parts and put half on the mask layer. Then I switch back a forth between layers, making adjustments until finally bringing both pieces together and removing overlaps. In sketch mode, you can't see the sketch on the other layer, only an outline. When I switch layers, it retains the sketch from the previous layer so I have to import sketch every switch. With every switch, I lose a little fidelity due to the importing sketched from curves and converting back to curves.

Another sketch mode annoyance: the warnings arrows from font audit appear in sketch mode.

I really do like sketch mode as a way a subtly correcting curves outside of the constraints of Bezier curves. It seems like it's never been fully integrated into FontLab Studio . . . it has the feel of an external plug-in. As I mentioned before: the are problems with turning preview mode on and off, using reverse colors and the way point types are set incorrectly after converting to curves.
