"Nodes at Extremes" not working?

Hi

I am unable to get this function to work -- any ideas? I am using a glyph that has an arc at the top (an 'r') but the function makes no alteration to the top of the 'r' where I would expect it to insert a control vertex so that the control box would equal the bounding box.
