Hi,
I am creating a web page which contains some text in Hindi. For this I have created an EOT file with the correct font.

When I view this in a browser, some extra spaces are visible between the characters. However, when I view it in word, the matter displays fine.

Does anyone have pointers as to where I may be going worng or what the solution is?

Thanks in Advance
Rahul

Hi,
You must be using a Non-unicode encoded font which has lots of problems with text when text is viewed in a webpage, Best way out is to work on Unicode encoded fonts for your hindi text, you may need to convert your text to Unicode to be able to use it with best screen results.

Hi Prabudh
Thanks very much for your reply.
No doubt I face this problem with a Non-Unicode encoded font.
However, I am facing this problem even when I use a Unicode encoded font such as Shusha.
Any pointers?
thanks in advance
Rahul

Hi,
Please know shusha is also a Non-unicode font.
A perfect example of unicode encoded font is "mangal.ttf" which ships with windows xp.
You need to install support for complex scripts from regional and language settings to enable indic on winxp.

Hi Prabudh,

Thanks for your reply. I am quite a novice at creating a bi-lingual website. I have to create one in Hindi. I would be obliged if you could help me with the step to follow, including which fonts to use etc, or if you could point me in the right directions.

Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
Rahul

Hi,
i can see your site loading font data from EOT but problem with extra spacing would always be present in Non-unicode fonts, infact hack encoded fonts, you should be able to use Unicode fonts without such extra spacings.

you can always try to build a site with unicode encoded fonts if you are running windows 2000 or upwards os on your local machine.

I'll mail you details.
