I'm looking forward to trying out SBL Hebrew but can't get through the installation of the keyboard. Here is the sequence of events:

1. Double-clicked on BHebSIL.exe to extract the zipped archive. OK
2. Double-clicked on BHebSIL.msi to install the driver and register it. OK
3. Have trouble setting up the text services to use the keyboard. I click 'Add' at the 'Text Services and Input Languages' window. At the 'Add Input Language' window I cannot select 'Hebrew' in the 'Input Language' field as instructed on page 3 of the manual because 'Hebrew' does not exist as a choice in the dropdown list. I have 'Greek' followed by 'Hungarian.' On the 'Keyboard Layout/IME' dropdown list I see 'Biblical Hebrew SIL' though.

What am I missing?

Thanks,
Bob

Which operating system are you using? Please try to provide precise version information (home or professional? service packs installed?)

I am using Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600
Service Pack 1.0

Because this is a computer owned by my college, a technician was able to help with the installation of the Hebrew keyboard. Now I am able to use the new SBL font. I lookforward to playing around with it. So far, so good.

I think what I was missing was an instruction to apply when at the 'Regional and Language Options' window. Before clicking 'Details' I should have checked the box for 'Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)' in the lower portion of the window for 'Supplemental language support'

Once that checkbox was checked I was able to proceed successfully.

If that is not correct, please comment. As far as I can tell, however, I'm good to go...

thanks for what appears to be a great tool.

Bob

You are quite right that the 'Install files for complex scripts...' box should be checked. We will update this information in the next version of the install instructions. I'm guessing we missed the necessity of this step because all our test machines already had the complex script files installed.

John,

Actually Step 1 of the instructions already reads (in part):

Step 1: Install right-to-left language support from your Windows XP disk.

Select Control Panel from the Start menu.

Double-click Regional and Language Options.

Select the Languages tab.

Under Supplemental language support, check the box labeled Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages.

....

Users should not feel bad about missing it. I install fairly complex Unix software without reading the instructions, at least until something goes wrong. :-)

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Patrick

I have taken all the steps indicated by John and Patrick but still find no option of Biblical Hebrew in the drop down list under "Languages" "Details" "Settings" "Add" "Add Input Language."

I am using Windows XP Home  5.1.2600 SP2 Build 2600

What have I missed?
