Folks,
At the Trinity Western computer lab they have Word 2002 in XP.  It works fine except that when inserting final kof with chametz inscribed - e.g. in לך "to you" - or final kof with dagesh (in this case a colon) inscribed - e.g. in דרך "way" - from the symbol set, Word puts it at the right end of the string rather than in its place at the left as the string develops right to left.  The problem also occurs with lamed with overscribed point.  Now I'm wondering how one gets these final kofs with inscribed vowels with the SBL font.  I didn't see them on the Tiro keyboard chart.

The keyboard does not include input for precomposed letter + mark combinations. You have to input the letter followed by the combining mark (most of these are accessible in the shift state). The font uses OpenType Layout intelligence to dynamically position the marks relative to the letters.

It is quite likely that there are Biblical Hebrew text processing problems in Word 2002. I have tested the font thoroughly in Word Xp and Word 2003. Only the latter offers perfect support for all aspects of the Biblical text -- even Word Xp has some problems, although not many. Word 2002 used an older version of the Hebrew shaping engine, that does not implement all the current OpenType Layout lookups.

My apologies: Ken Penner just reminded me that Word 2002 is Word Xp. I was thinking of the previous version. As noted, there are some known issues with Word 2002, including input and rendering issues. I will try to provide more details when I return to North America, although we can't promise full support for that version of Word.
