I must be missing something, and others may
encounter a similar problem as well, either at present or in the
future.

1. My introduction to SBLHebrew was with
version 1.07 and I've been using it quite well (and very often). I use the
Biblical Hebrew (SIL) keyboard

2. Then I downloaded version 1.11, deleted
the old SBL_Hbrw.ttf from my Fonts folder and installed the new SBL_Hbrw.ttf
that came with v1.11

3. Then I opened an older document that
included SBLHebrew characters and found them completely unreadable.

What should one do to remedy
this?

On a side note, I'd like to continue using
the Biblical Hebrew (SIL) keyboard layout, as I find the Tiro Biblical Hebrew
keyboard too awkward

Bob, please send me a sample of one of your documents created with v1.07 that has problems with v1.11. I'm not aware of any issues that would cause problems, other than the encoding changes for some rare characters as documented in the new manual.

Thanks for the Powerpoint documents, Bob. I've tracked down the problem, and it is a typical piece of Powerpoint weirdness. It seems that in slide display mode Powerpoint caches raw Glyph IDs rather than the underlying character codes. Since the glyph set of the new font differs slightly from the previous one, all the Glyph IDs are offset, so the wrong glyphs display in your older Powerpoint documents. The spacing also looks wrong because the glyphs from the new font are being displayed on the widths of the different glyphs from the old font, indicating that Powerpoint also caches metrics in display mode.

The way to fix your Powerpoint documents is to enter editing mode for each slide by double-clicking on it. This will refresh the Glyph IDs, getting the appropriate glyph for each character from the new font. Do this for each slide, and then resave your document. I'm afraid you may have the same problem with any future updates to the SBL Hebrew font, and will have to go through the same steps to refresh the documents.
