Could someone please tell me if this font will work in QuarkXpress 6.1 on a Mac System v10.4.4. I dont understand all the technical jargon but have tried loading it in the font file and system file. Font book will acknowledge it but it will not show in any of my programs.  I am a graphic designer and need to represent both English and Hebrew words for some bible verses and different names for God....
can anyone help please?

The SBL Hebrew font is installable under Mac OS X, but will only work in applications that a) support Unicode text encoding, and b) support right-to-left  and bidirectional text layout. Additionally, if you want to include vocalisation or other diacritic marks, not just letters, then you need to use an application that supports OpenType Layout for complex scripts.

Quark only started supporting Unicode text encoding in verson 7.0 of Xpress, and as I understand you need to get a special Middle Eastern Edition of the software in order to support right-to-left text layout. I'm not sure if even this correctly supports OpenType dynamic mark positioning; I suspect not.

Most mac-based SBL Hebrew users seem to be using the Mellel word processing program, which has good internal support for OpenType Layout. The Middle East version of Adobe InDesign CS2 is also quite good.

Your needs sound relatively simple, so you might be able to find someone who has appropriate software who can make e.g. an Illustrator compatible EPS graphic of the Hebrew you need.
