George, don't argue with me! Argue with Gates!  When I do (or did) a large file with lots of switching back and forth Hebrew to English to Hebrew, and the English is in Times-Roman, the program defaults to Times-Roman Hebrew.  I got sick of yanking its hand every time to get the font I wanted (viz. one that kerned properly, such as John's).  I tried everything from specifying the document fonts in FORMAT to deleting T-R from the system.  Nothing worked.  I went to conferences, and my hair stood on edge as I tried to read Powerpoint slides replete with Hebrew words with holes in their teeth.  But who's complaining?  Cross had to switch balls on his IBM typewriter to get Hebrew (and then type backwards and hope people would ignore the lack of vowels or understand complicated transcriptions).  Less important people had to enter Greek and Hebrew by hand into their dissertations.  I'm beginning to sound like Hebrews 11!!

Andrew

Yes, I remember the days of the IBM Selectric from when I worked on the Form-Critical Project at Claremont.

First, count the spaces required.

Second, move to end.

Enter character.

Backspace twice.

Repeat until done.

Why not get Keyman or the Logos Hebrew Keyboard (It's free) and simply type in the characters rather than use Insert Symbol?

Follow the instructions in the PDF file.
