I am designing a non-Latin font. As a result, I do not use the category UpperCase and Lowercase.
Since my font is quite small, I want to discard as much as possible, and I am considering dropping some CVT entries.
I know I have to keep entries from 40 to 64.
My first guess was that I am almost completely free from 68 and above. But for the range from 0 to 39 included, I am not that sure.
It looks like at first glance I can also re-use the unused entries like 0 to 3, 6 to 9, 10, 11, 14, 15 for my own categories.
What about the italic runs (with version 4.2, of course).

Thanks for your technical advices here.
And thanks for the product, too, it is very nice.

(My apologies for the late response, I'm currently in "crunch mode" and completely forgot to check the VTT message board).

Regarding the re-use of cvts, consider the savings, they are a only 2 bytes per cvt saved/re-used. Apart from that, I think you can re-use all but 40 through 64 (I've never actually thought about this since most fonts I've come across are 64k and larger, hence I'm not overly worried about saving 64 bytes). As long as you don't need/use the GlyphStrokeAngle tool/command, no cvts are needed for italic run/rise. Likewise, if your font doesn't have any UC or lc characters, the respective heights are not needed. Feel free to renumber the cvts that you end up using, as long as you don't use the numbers 40 through 64.

Hope this helps
