Hello, all?

1. Trouble
>>    Sometimes, VTT itself changes the Original Outline.
Till  Some hours ago, it was fine.
But, After I did compile CVT and make some hinting....It changes Original Outline.

>>   If there's trouble in VTT, redownloaded files  also has trouble.
How can I solve the trouble like this?

2. Questions
 >> In VTT Manual, There's no sample picture about SHIFT.
      When I should Use Shift?
I can't understand the difference between 'Distance' and 'Shift'.

>>  How Can I add my own comment on CVT?
Though We usually use comment like this....../* DESCENDER_HEIGHT */
But, this isn't shown on the popup menu. The comment shown on the popup menu is the CVT Attributes. The Attributes only can be edited on the 'Edit CVT Attributes' Dialogbox, and the attributes are added by input '0X' as a placeholder.
      Can't I add my own comment(for example,  /* stem-width for Gulim Font */)
to popup menu?

>>  What is the importance of the distance(link) color?
Though, I also read TrueType Font Files v.1.0 about Distance(link) Color...
I can't understand the importance of the distance(link) color.

>> When I used Angle tool to Italic Stroke Angle, it doesn't shown...it only shown as vertical line.
I used this tool to Ariali.ttf in Windows XP....But, I can't get nothing about it.
it always shown as vertical line.(I did as the way that is in the VTT manual).

  • I'm not aware of the cvt compilation changing the original outline. What changes in the cvt and what hinting do you suspect to have caused what changes of the original outline?
  • Distance preserves the distance from the parent to the child point. By default, the distance/link tool chooses round-to-grid. Shift shifts the child point by the same amount that any hinting previously shifted the parent point. By default, the shift tool chooses no rounding.
  • As to the comments in the cvt, I would suggest to use user-defined character groups as defined in the control program.
  • The distance/link color is determined automatically by the VTT Talk compiler. A black distance is a distance which is entirely inside a glyph, such as across a stem. A white distance is a distance that is entirely outside the glyph, such as across a counterform. Finally, a grey distance is a distance which has both an inside and and outside part to it. To my knowledge, distance/link colors are used by certain printers for compensating printer engine characteristics (e.g. to compensate for the difference between white writing engines vs. black writing engines).
  • For the angle tool, grid-fit and pixels need to be turned off, because we are referring to the original outline, and both x- and y-direction tools must be turned on, because we use both directions. Furthermore, the cvt must contain entries for the italic run and rise, see the manual http://www.microsoft.com/typography/developers/VTT/italichinting.htm

Hello, sir?

Thanks very much for your sincere answers.

By the way, the trouble that VTT changes the original drawing was solved.
In my viewing the VTT, it seems some trouble itself.
If it has trouble only in my computer, I don't say like this.
But, in other computer(about 3-5 computers for testing....) also has the trouble changing the original drawing.
If once VTT has trouble with such trouble, redownloaded VTT also does so.
So, I removed registry about VTT. And, after then, it was all right.

But, When I use Angle Tool, I can't get anything. So, I take a snapshot about it.
I really can't understand what the trouble was.

Please let me know about it.
Have a nice day~~!!
