Hi!

I am new to VOLT and to this List. I started working on Telugu font.

Till now what I have done is this  --- (i) I got one old ttf font with very less glyphs, (ii) Using these glyphs I created more glyphs (combination letters etc.) on the pattern of Pothana2000 (a unicode compatible font). There are about 636 glyphs. (iii) Using VOLT I assigned U+0C01 - 0C7F to the different glyphs. I also created from Look ups for Substitution and Positing. Unlike the Gautami font (released by MS), Pothana has combination glyphs like Ka + AAMatra -> KaAA to Ksha + AUMatra -> KshAU. I also created the Language, script and some features. After compiling in the proofing the Ka + AAMatra etc. are properly changing to KaAA etc. But when I install the font and test them in Notepad it is not working.

I think there are very few people working on Indic fonts and on Telugu very very few.

Any help will be highly appreciated. I am attaching my font file.

Hi!
Your font functions properly in Notebook no problem! Out of curiosity after installation of your font, I copied a page taken from Wikipedia Tulugi edition and pasted it in Notebook then saved it with a Unicode encoding (it gives you the choice of ANSI, etc.). Then in Notebook Format/Font choose Duvvuri and your beautiful glyphs appear! Avoid clicking 'bold' because it is an artificial expansion of the outlines by Windows and is quite ugly. Make your own bold and designate it as 'bold'.
Congratulations.
By the way what is the use and function of the feature?
Best wishes

Dear Valavel

I myself was not able to get the ligatures etc. in my computer. They are forming in VOLT only on compiling and installing the font it is not working either in Notpad or other software. How you are getting my font I can't understand. When I am trying what it is doing is it is using the Gautami font. Most probably you are also getting the Gautami font and not my font. Please check once again.

Dear Duvvuri-kashi
My apologies ! I re-checked and indeed the font in Notebook does not have the elegant lines of your duuvuri font!
In Fontlab I could see that the glyphs have only names but no Unicode values. This may well be the cause of the problem. So many glyphs- I am sure you know that in  Fontlab you can make components of common shapes to abridge the design work.
Best of luck.
