Every time when I import some contour from AI to FontLab, it will become very bad and ugly. Who could tell me how can make the contour same as the AI, thx.
(Look at the attach picture.)

Ah, that’s because Illustrator allows decimals, but Fontlab not, and it puts the nodes in the nearest point of its grid (one unit in Fontlab = one point in Illustrator).

The best thing to do is to define a grid in Illustrator measured in points (1 x 1 points would be great) and flag the preference Align to grid. This way, your drawings will be forced to be in the “right” place (i. e., where Fontlab reads it).

Note: this solution is not perfect, because you’ll need always check if all the nodes and BCP are exactly in a point of the grid, specially in the little curves (the big ones normally doesn’t need that care). Maybe you may want to draw from scratch in Fontlab, or redraw that nasty details in Fontlab.

Best,

CH

I’m thinking that you can increase the grid, too (UPM size): In Fontlab > File > Font Info > Metrics and Dimensions. The default is 1000 (i. e., a grid of 1000 x 1000 units), but you can make a grid of, let’s say, 2000 x 2000 units: the double of “resolution”, and the double of chances to get a closer translation from AI to Fontlab.

But that is not a perfect solution either, because some older applications may have problems in displaying those fonts.

Good luck!
